Axe Throwing in Grand Rapids
I spoke with Derek Lofquist owner of Wood-Splitters Axe Throwing in Grand Rapids Michigan, and we spoke on how to launch a successful Axe Throwing Business.

Derek Lofquist is an entrepenuer who seizes an opportunity when he see’s a demand needed to be filled. He found that demand in Grand Rapid’s Michigan when there was only one Axe Throwing Facility that had a monopoly on Axe Throwing.

When Derek Opened Wood-Splitters Axe Throwing he focused on what many businesses forget about. Customer Experience, Quality, and Knowledge. He wanted to ensure when people came to his business they would come back because they felt comfortable in his facility.

If you came to Grand Rapids Michigan before November 1st, you have noticed that there was only one Axe Throwing Facility in Grand Rapids. The Facility was mediocre at best, but with only one facility there was no where else to go to experience the great sport of axe throwing. He decided to spice things up a bit and opened his own Axe Throwing Joint down the street from their competitors. A challenge to see who can run a better facility than the others. The only challenge he had to overcome was how to do it better?

When designing he his facility he had to take into account the consumer experience, so Derek and his Team engineered a facility layout that allows throwers to participate with ease. Safety lines are placed around the throwing area to ensure that anyone not participating will not get harmed. There he incorporated a tabled area where an audience can watch participants throw competitively. When throwing, safety is key.

Quality is another key when it comes to satisfying a market. Derek Lofquist knew that in order to get people coming back, he couldn’t run a business using cheap material. So he designed a turn-key method on creating his own custom Axe Boards in house. He designed these axe boards to withstand a lot of damage especially with Multiple Axes being throwing at them all day. These boards are crafted to endure a lot of damage and not crackle when getting hit with an axe. Having durable axe throwing boards not only save’s money on cheap boards that have to be replaced all the time. They provide customers with the satisfaction of a fair game and worry free of a board breaking.

The best thing I have found Wood Splitters Axe Throwing offered was it’s expert team of Axe Masters that instruct you how to properly throw and axe. The Axe masters at Wood-splitters Axe Throwing are excellent, they teach you all the safety guidelines before you throw your first axe. Not only do they teach you how to be safe, but once they see you’re good enough with an axe, they can teach you some neat trick shots and games that can be played. When talking with Derek, he explained that all of his Axe Master undergo rigorous training to be an instructor, this rigorous training includes memorizing tricks games and safety material. “You can’t have a great business without a great team” -Derek.

Picking Derek’s head was a great way to understand the world of Axe Throwing. With his team he showed me how to destroy your competitors when you know how to execute a great business with customer service!
